FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 20, 2011 - Just recently there was the tenth Annual Hudson County Shout Down Drugs music competition.  This competition was held in the center court at Newport Centre in Jersey City.  Thirteen musically talented Hudson county high school students were applauded.  These students came from Harrison, Jersey City and Union City.  These students created original music lyrics with peer to peer drug prevention messages.  This competition is sponsored by the partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey and United Way of Hudson County.

United Way of Hudson County is proud to support the “Hudson County Shout Down Drugs” music competition.  This project encourages high school students to be peer leaders and help all those involved in the fight against drugs.  The local teens there are expressing themselves through song and that is a great way to learn about and better understand such a topic that affects so many of their friends and family.

Judith Vigliotti was the winner of the competition with her song, “There’s Always a way”.  She was awarded $1,000 music contract from the PDFNJ to perform at countywide events.  The runners up received a trophy and achievement certificate in recognition for their strong peer-to-peer drug prevention messages.  This competition is a great way of awarding our youth with their efforts to prevent drug use.  There are probably many more groups like these we need to hear more about them.
